Loot boxes have proven to be controversial over the past few years, as parents and government bodies alike have placed them under scrutiny for allegedly pushing gambling urges. This has caused Rocket League developer Psyonix to give up the loot box system in lieu of a new item shop, with the caveat that the skins are pretty expensive.
The change took place as the game’s season 12 update launched. Instead of purchasing the boxes, players instead have the pick of what they actually want to buy with credits earned in the game. Psyonix had converted existing player loot crates in inventories to blueprints, which can be converted into the items themselves.
While it sounds a bit convoluted, it’s really pretty simple. Players get their blueprints where they can see what’s inside. If they decide that the item is something they want, they can use the credits to go ahead and purchase that item.
The business model of allowing for individual item purchases follows that of Epic

After a few days lingering around a black hole, Epic Games’ hit battle royale shooter Fortnite has launched its Chapter 2 game, bringing with it a bunch of new features.
The game held an event last weekend where a rocket broke the dome overseeing the island where players duke it out, with the world being crashed down on and eventually sucked into a black hole. Players were stuck with that screen for the next few days, wondering just what would happen.
It turns out that Chapter 2 is what happened, giving players a new map as well as some intriguing features.
Among these features is an area on the map named Slurpy Swamp, which generates shields for players who’re standing in it. The game also lets players upgrade weapons, letting you build workbenches to upgrade the lethality of your gun. Hiding from foes is also enhanced, letting you stake out in dumpsters and haystacks.
If hiding isn’t your thing, you can fish

Microsoft has revealed that multiplayer servers for the game will be 60Hz for the first time, allowing for fast gameplay for those on all Xbox consoles and PCs. Fortnite season 6 has dropped and it's easily one of the most exciting seasons we've seen so far. Here is a quick overview on everything that has been added in season 6.
First, let's start with the new map locations.
In season 6, four new locations have been added - corrupted areas, corn fields, and haunted castle. The fourth place is a large floating island that moves around the map. There are also other changes spread throughout the map.
The season 6 battle pass is also filled with 100 new cosmetic items and plenty of other rewards. There are two new evolving skins - one called Calamity and another called Dire.
Both advance as you level up your battle pass. The Dire skin is perhaps the best we’ve seen so far - you start off as an ordinary man but slowly turn into a wolf as the skin evolves.
There are of course many other great skins in the new battle pass, including the Nightshade pumpkin head skin.
Pets have been added to Fortnite, as well.
