Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Review

There is this perception about the Call of Duty franchise that every new installment is more of the same with minor upgrades. Sure, there are new weapons and maps in every new installment but the foundations that made this franchise successful are still there for better or worse. Over the years, gamers have expressed their dissatisfaction with this COD, claiming that they would like to see innovative changes with every installment rather than paying top Dollar for a game that feels quite similar with every new release.

Despite these grievances, there is no denying that Call of Duty remains a juggernaut in the gaming industry and will stay that way for a long time. Casual and hardcore gamers have been waiting for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for quite a while, hoping that it would bring something new to the table. Continue reading to find out whether the latest COD installment will meet your expectations or if it is more of the same.

Overhauled Player Movement

One of the most noticeable and welcome changes in Black Ops 6 is the completely new player movement system that gives this game a different feel. Now, players can dive, slide and sprint in their preferred direction, a welcome change in the gameplay mechanics. The biggest perk of this movement overhaul is that players can keep their eyes locked on the enemy at all times whether they are running, crouching, diving or creating space.

Sure, you may find some people claiming that they aren’t the biggest fans of the movement overhaul but generally, this change has been well received in the gaming community.

The Return of Zombies

It feels like Treyarch really listened to the COD fanbase’s demands this time, as it made multiple positive changes to the game while bringing back the Zombies game mode. This version is a fantastic blend of the previous Zombie versions while adding things like perk upgrades, armor plats and omni-movement. Many gamers believe that this mode is quite challenging, as it includes a lot more than shamblers, such as three headed beasts, mutated spiders, bugs and armored soldiers. You really need to be at the top of your game to beat the enemy this time around.

Standout Mission Structure

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has a solid campaign with an impressive mission structure. Unlike previous installments where certain missions would bore you to tears, things have vastly improved this year. In one of the earlier missions, you are tasked to blackmail key figures during a political rally to gather intel. You will also get to infiltrate a casino in one of the missions, where you have to be tactful and stealthy at every turn.

Now, while the mission structure has greatly improved and the campaign is mostly great, there are some things that hold it back. Without going into spoilers, let’s just say that the motivation of several characters feels superficial at best. The campaign is still good but had the potential to be one of the best with tighter writing.

Let’s Talk About the Gunplay

People like the Call of Duty franchise for a lot of different things. Some like it for the campaigns story, others love the multiplayer game modes but one thing that everybody looks forward to as the gunplay. Fortunately, this game is better than ever in this area, providing you with a vast arsenal of assault rifles, light machine guns and snipers. Surprisingly, the XM4, which you will get early on in the game is quite good for taking out enemies and it becomes a killing beast with some customizations.

Final Thoughts

It wouldn’t be a far stretch to say that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a return to form for this franchise, mixing elements from previous games with original ideas. The new gameplay changes, maps, weapons etc. show that this franchise has a lot more to offer to newcomers and returning players down the line.
