Five Things to Expect From The Last of US Part 3

The Last of Us is among the biggest video game franchises of all time and one of Naughty Dog studio’s biggest achievements. Part drama, part zombie horror and survival, this video game took the gaming scene by storm and is a big reason behind success of PlayStation 3 and 4. Critics and audiences loved the 1st and 2nd part of the franchise and can’t wait for the 3rd, possibly final chapter of this story.

Currently, there hasn’t been any announcement regarding The Last of Us 3 besides some less than credible leaks. However, if you have played the 1st and 2nd part, you will agree that there are several stories still to be explored, which is why Naughty Dog studios must complete the trilogy. While everyone waits for any kind of announcement regarding the franchise, let us talk about five things to expect from the Last of Us 3.

More Variety in Boss Fights

One thing that makes The Last of Us feel like an incomplete game is the lack of boss fights (you only get one in part 2.) While killing the rat king was tough yet satisfying, gamers hoped there would be more of such moments. The developers at Naughty Dog should consider making the next TLOU title more boss fight heavy, adding more variety to an already stacked survival horror game.

It would also help if there were human and non-human boss fights with varying degrees of difficulties, making the game even more immersive.

More Weapons and Customization

TLOU is a franchise that has thrived by providing players with scarce resources, testing their ability to survive. It’s a bold decision that has paid off so far, but why not introduce something new in the third part.  Who knows, introducing a wide range of weaponry and customization features could attract even more players, opening doors to more sequels or maybe an online multiplayer mode down the line. There are plenty of possibilities.

Exploring Abbie and Ellie’s Relationship Further

It is clear as day that Abbie is among the most controversial characters in the history of video games. Some people loved her while others couldn’t tolerate a second of her presence. Massive groups of people review bombed The Last of Us 2 just because they didn’t agree with Abbie’s decisions and wanted her to get her comeuppance.

Whatever your thoughts about the whole situation are, one thing is clear, the third game needs to explore Abbie and Ellie’s relationship further. Who knows, we may even get to play as Abbie once again and perhaps even longer than the second part.

Overhauled Melee Combat

The Last of Us 2 had noticeable better melee combat compared to its predecessor, with the inclusion of ducking and weaving. Naughty Dog should continue this trend, introducing better, swifter and most importantly more brutal melee animations to make the kills even more satisfying. Some changes to the stealth mechanics would also be welcomed, adding more juice to the survival horror element of this franchise.

A Satisfying Conclusion

The first and second installments of The Last of Us kind of ended with cliff hangers, making you wanting for more. If the third installment of this game sees the light of day, the creative team should put a huge emphasis on concluding the stories of its key characters. Sure, they may want to keep things open for more games down the line but it would be better if they reintroduce us to this world without dragging the current story.

Final Thoughts

With fans scouring online forums to learn about any TLOU related leaks, here’s hoping that Naughty Dog announces that franchise’s next installment sooner rather than later. It would be great to see if their creative team implements the things mentioned in this piece but who knows, maybe they have something even better planned already.
