Sony is literally horrible at keeping new hardware news secret. Months before its official release there were rumors going around that Sony was coming up with a new "super slim" version of the old PS3. By old PS3 I mean the very first generation, you know the ones that weighed a ton.

Sony is known to release slimmer version of their consoles as they did for the PS2 so everyone expected a PS3 Slim somewhere down the pipeline. However, I for one did not expect a slimmer version of the PS3 Slim. The rumors mentioned the newer model might be a bit cheaper and also arrive somewhere around TGS 2012.

Thanks to Sony's official reveal, once again we see that rumors in the video game industry are much more reliable than those in any other industry. The Playstation 3 Super Slim was revealed on the 17th of September on TGS and the details of the new model are as follows.

Specifications:

There is nothing really different about this model as compared to the predecessors. It is still not backwards compatible like the original PS3 and is about 25% lighter and 20% less in volume compared to the PS3 Slim. We don’t have to do the math to know that this means it's a LOT smaller and lighter than the FAT PS3 (is it actually the official name for it or have people just termed it that?).

Versions and Release Dates:

There are several version of the device coming out and are priced according to the following regions.

North America

- 250GB - $269 (Uncharted 3/Dust 514 Bundle) - September 25th
- 500GB - $299 - October 30th

Europe and PAL Territories

- Flash Memory 12GB - 229 Euros, AUD $299.95, NZD $399.95 - October 12th (September 27th AU, October 18th NZ)
- 500GB - 299 Euros, AUD $399.95, NZD $519.95 - September 28th (September 27th ANZ)

Japan

- 500GB - 29,800 Yen - October 4th

As you can see there are mainly 3 versions, 250GB, 500GB and 12GB Flash memory models. Currently the bundle has only been announced for North America. Basically the bundle gets you Uncharted 3 for free and also a voucher for more than $30 worth of bonus content for Dust 514. I guess Sony is still trying to get the North Americans to let go of the Xbox 360 this holiday season.
