There is no surprise that a few games passed under your attention since 2022 was a loaded year with smaller surprise hits (Marvel Snap), blockbusters (God of War Ragnarok), and indie darlings (Immortality). But the biggest blink-and-you-miss-it release may be Need for Speed Unbound, the most recent installment in EA's venerable street racing series, which came out in late November. According to many players, Unbound is the number one racing game in the NFS series. Although the $69.99 PC game is visually appealing and supports cross-platform play with the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, it lacks good automobile handling and a vibrant in-game setting.

Customization

Regarding customization, the team behind Need for Speed knows how to surprise their fans. In Need for Speed: Bound, they took the personalization features above expectations. You can make the suspension stiffer than the previous NFS version. Also, you can widen the wheel arches and wear the new stylish boots.

A brand new update for the new Need for Speed reboot has been released onto live servers. The new update has been dubbed 'Legends' and it's available on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The new update includes a wide variety of free content such as new cars, new music and new collectibles. The REP level has also been increased - players can now reach 70 REP instead of the previous 60 REP. Reaching each of the 10 REP levels after 60 REP will reward players with a new decal.

On top of the new decals, a number of new cars have been added as part of the Legends update and three new achievements/trophies have been added. Below the achievement names and criteria have been listed. The Xbox One achievements are the same as the PS4 trophies.

As you can guess from the achievement criteria above, Eddie has been added as a new Legend.

Despite being published by EA, the new Need for Speed game may be very generous to players when it comes to DLC and other paid for content past the base game price. If you've been paying attention to the video games industry recently you'll have noticed that it's basically become common practice to put DLC or even microtransactions in full AAA games these days so it's always a refreshing change when a developer goes against the norm.

Craig Sullivan, the creative director for the new Need for Speed game has revealed that the upcoming title will not have any DLC content that is paid for, and on top of that there will be no microtransactions. On top of having no extra paid content, there will be additional content after the launch of Need for Speed that will be given to players for free.

Craig Sullivan didn't rule out the possibility of paid DLC in the future, but it seems very unlikely - their plans are not to create any extra paid content and it looks like they'd like

I'd be surprised if you haven't seen it already, but Rockstar recently uploaded a video filled with gameplay on their Youtube channel. The video shows footage as a narrator explains some of the gameplay mechanics that will be involved with the game. The three-way main character system was shown and explained, and it looks to be very intuitive.

The video also goes onto showing some of the many things you can do in the world of GTA V, including a whole host of sports like golf, tennis or hunting. And other completely unexpected activities like investing in real estate and buying stocks in a virtual stock market.

Another interesting feature is the ability to completely customize your own car with spray paint, and vehicular upgrades. The video showed the player owning a car that looked to come straight out of some of the older Need for Speed games.

Criterion Games Working on New Title

Thanks to dedicated internet crawlers, information for an "unannounced racing title" due for release in 2013 has been found within the CV of one of Criterion Games' employees.

Following on from this, the announced game has been listed on the LinkedIn profile owned by Need for Speed: Most Wanted developer's lead cinematic artist for marketing, positioned alongside the words "EA Games 2013."

Further internet crawling has shown that the game has been shown on another Criterion employee's LinkedIn as well, meaning it's very likely for a new Criterion racing title to hit this year.
